IT'S RAINING GOALS!

The Mixed team fixture was cancelled due to player availability. We thankfully got a bit of decent weather on Saturday morning though as the Badgers team hosted Saints 2. The opponents were short of players so Tristan again offered to switch sides to even it out a bit. Welford dominated the game, with lots of players on the scoresheet. Rob switched from umpire to opposition player but even that couldn't stop the goals pouring in, with Welford in complete control and the match finished 14-1. A massive congratulations to Isabel Lewington who got Player of the Match for some fantastic play on the right wing. The Badgers now get a week's rest before a trip to Towcester; the Mixed team face Sutton Bonington at home this weekend.

BACK-TO-BACK WINNING WEEKEND FOR WELFORD

Both teams secured home victories this Saturday.

Badgers played some great hockey in their first game of the season, against a Northampton Saints team including a few experienced adults. Goalkeeper Tristan switched sides just before half-time as the Welford defence was making life too easy for him! Matthew, Lucie and Tom grabbed a goal each, and George continued his goalscoring form to get his hat-trick, to make it a final score of 6-0.

The Mixed team meanwhile made it 2 wins from 2, despite only having 4 women players. New player Henry got both goals in a close 2-0 win. Again, some really good hockey on show from the teenage players. Thanks to Matt for umpiring.

Next weekend sees the Badgers at home against Saints 2, while the Mixed team have a road trip to Rutland to look forward to. Availability requests will be going live shortly.

LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON A 0 - WELFORD 2

The mixed team got off to a winning start in the top division. Goals from George Astbury and Matt Johnson (yes, you read that correctly - he's still got it!). Well done to George who also got Player of the Match. Next mixed game is a home tie against Kibworth Hospitals.

FIRST MIXED MATCH THIS COMING SATURDAY

The mixed team start the 24/25 season with an away game trip to Loughborough Carillon A. Match availability can be reported on the Spond app, which we are introducing this season. Let's go!

TRAINING BEGINS!

How great to see everyone back on a hockey pitch on Wednesday night! Training continues from now until Christmas except for a 2-week break to cover Northants and Leicester half-terms in October.

A reminder that junior training fees can be paid either every week or by block booking (£39 to cover 13 sessions, any sessions cancelled will be refunded/carried over). Adult training fees are covered by match fees.

NEW SEASON...

​

The 2024/25 season is just round the corner and we are excited to see what this season holds.

 

Our mixed team had a successful 2023/24 season - we were promoted to Leicester Div 1 and runners up in the cup. We are looking forward to another enjoyable and competitive season. 

 

Our young, but fearless, Badgers team take on teams from Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and now Warwickshire and we are hoping for another awesome season. There were goals galore and some highly impressive play from players across the age range. 

​

We also have a HUGE number of juniors this season which will make our junior tournaments all the more exciting. It is a great joy to see them learn and grow at this age. We are hoping to be able to take some teams to the regional tournaments again. Last season, they held their own against teams from huge clubs in the midlands and it was a great experience for all involved.

labours, it's true to say that many hands makes light  work.

We have a number of opportunities for you to join our merry band 

of volunteers. If you are the type of person who wants to give back

to our club which has benefited so many and contributed so

much to Welford and surrounding areas please do get in touch via

areas including: coaching, umpiring, and organising our Badgers
